Atelier Tekuto: HG House

Japanese firm Atelier Tekuto has completed HG house in Setagaya-Ku. The concept of the house was derived from the client’s request of ‘living in the garage’. The living room opens out into a courtyard where bikes can be stored. The overall design is unified with finishes using steel and solid wood.

Visvim - The New Japanese Culture of Style

Visvim encompasses something that Varón believes in - the creation of anything, big or small should be done right.  Visvim, a Japanese lifestyle brand, famous for its footwear collaborations and utilitarian sense of style, has created a world around its brand that represents an effortless , solid style.  All of their products are first and foremost, thoughtful, useful, and comfortable.

Even their retail spaces and showroom reflect this philosophy.  In Visvim’s Dissertation of 2009-10, they write, “what kind of design elements would allow a person visiting our store to feel comforted.  After careful consideration of all possibilities, I concluded that high ceilings, natural light, the balance between that light and shae, the use of greenery or some organic component, and the scent occupying the space, were all essential elements.”

You can check them out at London Dover Street Market and other selected locations.  Visvim

Moleskine detour at MoMA store Yokyo

Inside the MoMA design store in Omotesando, a glass tunnel with 50 moleskine notebooks showcased the imaginations of architects, designers, writers, directors and artists. Visitors were invited to use a pair of white cotton gloves (which were distributed at the entrance)for closer inspection, of the painting, drawing and doodling of famous architects and designers,on the empty white pages of a new notebook.

Launched in 2006 in London, the event has since expanded to notebook exhibitions among native creatives in cities including New York and Paris, with Tokyo opening last week and Berlin scheduled to launch next month.

Cradle Glasses - Japanese Optical Tailor

Known for their collaborations and vintage updates, Japanese optical tailor, Cradle is somewhere I would go and buy everything for a rainy day.  Their frames are great quality and the designs are taken from classic shapes and designs.  They often make exclusive capsule collections with other designers.  Their associates are phenomenal, one look and they know which frames fits you best.  Take a look at their selections @ Cradle

Shugo Tokumaru - Parachute

One of the most eclectic singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to come out of Japan, Tokumaru’s hands never seem to stop during his shows, with quick technical skills, he expresses something that we all need, a little fun romanticism.  A mix of French folk pop, Japanese electronic music and a hint of fantasy.  His album is an adventure in itself. Taking us through the highs and lows of his career, it is just amazing.  Do yourself a favor and brew a cup of green tea, sit on your favorite chair, and take a listen at Shugo Tokumaru. Shugo released his new album Exit internationally.
